{2} Adamson Lineage
The Adamson lineage traces back from America into the county of Stockholm, Sweden.
In all of rural Scandinavia, in times before the late 19th Century, the people practiced the custom of using a patronymic for purposes of indentification.
There were relatively few christian names in use, so they formed this additional name from the christian name of the father.
The patronymic suffixes 1) a possessive marker s and 2) a father indicator: either a) son for a male, or b) dotter for a female.
Often when a boy was grown, he would acquire a surname according to his profession with special forms for military and priests, or the locality of his farm.
Tracing the Adamson ancestry was made possible by the careful recording of vital events by the clerics of the Lutheran Church, which was supported by the state.
